The global pet care industry has been booming for the past several years. Dogs, cats, fish, birds…you name it, people are spending more on their pets each year. I’m a dog person, so you can imagine how intrigued I was when I heard about DogTelligent, the Texas-based company that is striving to harness the latest in wearable technology and the Internet of Things (IoT) to give man’s best friend an upgrade.
Introducing the DogTelligent Connected Collar, the world’s first all-in-one intelligent dog collar. The Connected Collar is Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS enabled and comes complete with a built-in ultrasonic speaker and microphone to help you communicate with your dog over distance. The accompanying DogTelligent app comes with pre-programmed commands that help you train your dog.
In combination, these features make it easier for you to:
- Keep your dog Healthy – You can benchmark your dog’s activity levels against data for its breed and age, as well as storing and sharing vet records so that you can stay up to date with vaccinations, medication etc.
- Keep your dog Safe – The Connected Collar is designed for use with DogTelligent’s proprietary Virtual Leash and Fence technology. Virtual Leash means that your dog can run off leash, but be signaled to return via a combination of whistle tones (just like professional dog trainers use) and vibrations intended to simulate a gentle ‘yank of the leash’. Whilst at home, Virtual Fence can be synced with your wi-fi network to alert you if your dog goes beyond an established zone.
- Find your dog when Lost – In the event that your dog does run off, the built in GPS tracker and 2 way communication gives you the ability to determine location and speak to your buddy no matter where you are. (I would have found this feature useful many times over the past few years.)
Company Founder Patrick Perrine states proudly, “I’m a dog person. I’ve had a dog since I was 2 months old, my first Christmas present. My dog Riley proudly serves as our company barksperson. You’ll see him in our cartoons as well as our logo. I’m also a technology entrepreneur. I’m always looking for ways to use technology to improve quality of life. Since Riley is such an important part of my daily routine, it was natural for me to look at what I found frustrating about being a dog owner: using a leash, excessive barking, not knowing how he’s doing when I’m not around, making sure I don’t leave him alone for too long, feed him on schedule… you know, that sorta thing. One by one, I came up with solutions to each of these problems and in the course of doing it, I realized that by monitoring a dog’s behavior, I would be better able to keep him safe and provide the right amount of exercise and sleep time. In other words, Riley would be a happier, healthier dog.”
DogTelligent is currently running a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo. The company has already more than doubled their target with 20 days still to run. You can check out their progress here.
